I'm Beatrice McBrady For Bee News...

I'm feeling ridiculously bored, but don't have anything of any interest to blog about today.

Oh wait...maybe I do.

I had one of the best times I've ever had on set this weekend. We were filming a mockumentary about Hollywood actors and producers and directors, and one of the scenes involved a glitzy movie premiere. We filmed the movie premiere at a theatre in Oakville. (As a bit of trivia, this theatre became a church for a short while before reverting back to being a theatre. Before I moved to New Brunswick, I used to lead the drama program for my youth group on Sunday nights when it was held at the theatre. It was very surreal to be back again.) Anyway, we pulled out all the stops for this scene. We had them change the marquee to read "Sweet Melissa: World Premiere", and there was a red carpet, and a moving spotlight...there was even a stretch limo! We got a whole ton of people to act as die hard fans of the actors, and we had about 8 "paparazzi" present, flashing cameras the entire time.

What was my role? Well, no red carpet would be complete without the red carpet journalist. I got to dress up and do my hair and makeup, and was handed a microphone for the "Bee News" station. From there I improvised myself a character (Beatrice McBrady for Bee News, with the buzz on what is happening at the world premiere of "Sweet Melissa"), and I got to improvise interviews with the actors as they emerged from the stretch limo.

It was a lot of fun (albeit cold...we had to pretend it was Hollywood, so I stood outside in a minidress in the middle of a Canadian November), and I am really looking forward to seeing the final product in the new year.

Anyway, before I remembered that story, I was going to post one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time, featuring one of my favourite actors, Peter Sarsgaard. For any of you who watched the news at all a couple years ago, you should get a kick out of this.

Aphthous Stomatitis

I have diagnosed myself with the condition.

It is when you have multiple or reoccurring canker sores in your mouth.

I have never been in this much pain from canker sores in my life. My lymph nodes are swollen from them, and my jaw is so tight, that it hurts to lie down because my back is all knotted up in tension.

I thought my stress was over. Now the stress of having canker sores is making more canker sores appear.

Kill me now.

My Childhood Has Been Rediscovered And It Smells Like Wonderful

I cannot tell you how excited I am today.

I had a bit of spare time (a rarity, I assure you), and suddenly, I felt myself in the mood to do a little bit of research ala Wikipedia.

For years, I have tried to tell people about my favourite game show that I watched all the time as a kid. The problem was, I couldn't remember what it was called, and my description of it always came across as a little bit vague.

Essentially, this is what I remember:

Two teams would compete against each other by moving a character around different spaces on a video screen. Sometimes he would run into obstacles (such as the neighborhood bully), and different squares brought up different challenges. Then, at the very end the team with the most points would win the chance to be a character in an arcade game. They would go into this foggy back room and (using what I MUCH later learned to be bluescreen technology) try and collect coins and dodge danger before beating the last character and winning some sweet prizes.

Well, after doing some research, I came across a show called "Nick Arcade", which in fact turned out to be my missing game show!

But it gets better! While the description was more than enough proof that I had found my missing childhood, I decided to YouTube it.

Here are some choice clips from what is (or at least I though so back then) the greatest television game show. Ever.

Ok, here is the introduction to one of the shows (and the introduction of the host, Phil Moore.)

I love the line "...a guy who once busted a move so bad, he had to pay to get it fixed." You gotta love early 90's comedy.

Now, here is some more information on something I could only ever dream of entering, the 'Video Zone.'

Here is a 'Face Off' between the two teams to earn control of 'Mikey, The Video Adventurer.'

I KNEW I remembered something about a little character that would get moved around the board. His name was Mikey. Who would have known?

I can't find any videos of anyone actually winning, so you're going to have to settle for two people really sucking.

Wow...what a fun trip down the good 'ol memory lane. Tune in for another blog when I write about "Masters Of The Maze" and "Kidstreet."

Soundtrack To My Life

I stole this from Andy. Basically you follow these instructions:

Some of mine kind of work. Actually, some of them work so well, it's freaky (see the dance sequence one! Thanks itunes! ) I will admit, I was kind of hoping for "Grade 9" by BNL for the "First Day Of School" category, but with 4000 songs on my itunes, this list turned out pretty well. Some of the randomness is downright funny. This also goes to show that I have a very eclectic taste in music.

Requiem For A Theme

Thanks to my "fountain of totally useless trivia" I now know the answer to something that has been bothering me for at least 5 (years now.)

What the heck is this song?

Well ladies and gentlemen, as you can see it is from Requiem For A Dream. The only thing is, I've never seen Requiem For A Dream. The only time I've ever heard this song is in movie re-cuts where the editor is trying to be dramatic (succeeding, but evidentially being totally cliche along the way.)

So now I know. If I die tonight, my life is complete.

A Halloween Post-Mortem
