Updates from kylainthebigcity
While I highlighted the joy that was my skydiving trip (see the two posts before this), I haven't really done a personal blog post in awhile. Lately I've gotten questions from friends that lead me to believe that nobody REALLY knows what is going on in my life. So without further ado, here is what is going on with me, so you can all come back up to date.
As of May, I "officially" moved out of my home in New Brunswick, and took up permanent residence in Toronto, in a beautiful waterfront condo in the southern part of the city. I know I promised pictures awhile ago, but I have either a) lacked the motivation to take the pictures when the condo is clean or b) the condo isn't clean. I'm sure I will get around to posting pictures some day.
My room in my condo is tiny, because I share the condo with two other roommates (such lovely condos are QUITE expensive), but it's cozy, and affordable, not to mention within walking distance of everything I need/love.
My roommates are named Amanda and Kayla. I was an RA with Amanda for one year during my second year of college, and I went to school with Kayla for three years. I also live with a cat named Tycho, who has effectively destroyed my curtains, my carpet, and my screen. I am secretly hoping that one day, as it scratches yet another hole into my screen, that it will fall from the window. This is obviously no longer a secret, and I have told Kayla this (she owns him) many times. She usually yells at me and tells me to stay away from her cat, but what else am I to do? That cat really has the tendency to piss me off.
My permanency in Toronto became official when I finally, last week, received my Ontario health card in the mail. Now all I need to do is register to vote, and I am an official Ontarian.
In July I marked my 21st year on this planet by...going to work. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have joined the world of the working. With my schooling finished last May this happy graduate joined the adult world of working for a living, 9-6, Monday through Friday.
I work at a television production company called NextFilm (Kayla actually works there too!) We have all different kinds of shows, ranging from hour-long docu-dramas to Canadian-based reality, do-it yourself style shows. I work at reception for now...I haven't figured out exactly what I want with my future as of yet, but I know that I meet awesome people every single day, and can see myself going places within the company at some point.
In addition to going to work on my birthday, I managed put back a number of $3.50 martini's at Hey Lucy's with friends, and received some beautiful gifts from my loved ones.
The days following my 21st birthday also marked the point where I decided to get my butt in gear. Less than a week after the 18th of July, I joined a gym and signed up for personal training. Since then, I have lost 15 pounds of fat, gained two pounds of muscle, and am still going (the goal is about another 20 pounds.) The next time a lot of you see me, I will hopefully be a lot less of the person that I was (body wise.)
I have very much gotten myself into a routine. Wake up, exercise, work, go home, relax, sleep, wash, rinse, repeat. My college-inspired 3:00 AM bedtimes have become 10:30 PM, and I feel quite content going home, watching a movie, spending time with my roomies, and generally being lazy. I go out a couple times here and there, but I've always been a quiet person, preferring to keep things simple.
Since skydiving, I have been inspired to try to complete more items on my list. I have an idea of what I want to try next, but I'm going to keep that to myself for awhile. Skydiving, more than anything, made me realize that I have to do these things for myself, not because I think someone might be impressed with me or I'm trying to prove anything to the world. I'm also considering another tattoo, and I know what and where, but that's another thing that I'm going to keep to myself until it comes to fruition.
So although my life isn't brimming with excitement and mystery, I find myself very content right now, looking forward to whatever the future brings, and finding balance between work and doing the things I love.
When I was 14, and moving to Toronto for the first time, I made my MSN handle 'kylainthebigcity.' After moving to Quispamsis in New Brunswick, I kept it around for the irony, and now, it has come full circle, back to a place where it makes sense. Though, this time around, it feels right. I have become a full-fledged city girl...and I couldn't be happier.
